Autumn Update

Business development in these ‘hard times’

The crisis in the financial markets may not have hit you or your sector just yet. Despite the press, many of our clients are still telling us that they intend to keep growing their business, strengthening their position in the market place and developing a reputation which should encourage nervous buyers to select them over their competitors.

Our clients and contacts are now all asking us ‘what does it take to grow your business in these tough times?’  At CI Systems we believe there are only 2 ways to look when you are seeking to develop your business – inwards and outwards.

Internal issues mean that everything you do must either reduce costs or improve efficiency. Business processes must maximise productivity in delivering your products and services. But how many of the things you do on a daily basis actually help to do this, and how much time is spent on non essential tasks? Traditionally organisations spend more than 80% of their time in any process either doing nothing or doing non essential tasks. By using our business process improvement techniques which incorporate LEAN, Six Sigma and others, you can have a dramatic effect on your bottom line.

  •   Typical improvements for our clients are:
  •   Overall business process cycle time reduction by -78%
  •   Improved business productivity by +24%
  •   Reduced redundant business processes by -19%
  •   Headcount reduction supporting business processes by -12%
  •   Reduced order-to-cash business cycle by -39%
  •   Reduced business process waste (rework) by -45%

But more than looking at this on a project by project basis there needs to be a culture in the organisation of improvement. Improvement should not be isolated to one position or one department but should permeate through the business.

Externally issues will include your sales and marketing strategy. Are you still looking for business opportunities? Have you run out of ideas to extend and develop your business potential? Are you maximising your client spend and increasing their satisfaction?

And remember that all inward analysis also looks outward to focus on the customer.  Little point in efficiently delivering what they don’t want

What can be done?

Initially you need to review your companies systems and processes. Look at them with a fresh pair of eyes.

You may want to start, for example, by reviewing your core business activities and evaluating each one by profit, cost profile and growth potential. A review of the market may lead to a re-evaluation of your business goals and strategies.

CI Systems have been working with organisations like yours to grow the top line business and cut the bottom line costs to revitalise your business. We can help develop a culture of success and belief and blow away the dark clouds looming on the horizon.  Using techniques we have perfected we can help you to understand how to continue our work once we have gone.

What do we suggest?

Our two senior consultants, with over 38 years of business experience between them, will come to you for a few days intensive work with your management team to assess the key issues, model your key processes and understand your business. We will then come back about 2 weeks later for a 1 day workshop to deliver a package of change ideas that when implemented will save you money and deliver dramatic changes to your profit margin. We won’t leave until we believe you know what to do next and how to carry on without us.

Who have we worked with in the past?

Our consultants have previously worked with Small and Medium sized companies with turnovers ranging from just a few thousand to many millions.  We have particular experience of working with organisations across Wales and NW England

Call us now on 0151 648 8116 or 01248 723208 and ask for Peter or Rebecca to arrange a free consultation to discuss how we could help you further.

Business Process Outsourcing

Corporate Information Systems have started working closely with CompuPacific Europe Limited in providing outsourcing services for back office functions. With more companies looking to reduce costs simple back office activities can be outsourced. Compupacific have around 800 staff working out of offices in Xi'an, China capturing data and adding value to companies and government agencies from across America and Australia.

With a strong and secure IT infrastucture and dedicated and qualified personnel CompuPacific provide effcient process management. Add this with staff costs at up to 70% lower than typical UK costs and huge savings are possible.

Typical companies who are outsoucing to offshore operations today have applications where the volumes of documents and data is high but where the process is simple and transactional. For example in Xi'an as we speak Compupacific is managing appications for car loans, where while the salesman talks to the customer, the data for the car loan application is entered from a fax, this data is checked against the car loan companies databases and the car loan can be approved before the customer has left the forecourt.

Fast, accurate, secure and low cost information handling are all reasons why moving this kind of application to specialist providers is so compelling.

Xi'an is of-course the home of the Terracotta Warriers. It is the ancient capital of China. In the 21st century it is now the home of a new power base in China. The student population is 800,000, so a vast resource of qualified and skilled workers are available to ensure your cost base is minimised and controlled.

Learn about the power of LEAN for Service organisations

Based on the principles of Lean process improvement, Corporate Information Systems are delivering 1 day process workshops to introduce the principles of Lean process thinking in to the office environment.

Using KanDo Lean, organisations can experience the fun of learning through hands on games which highlight these principles and their practical application in the office environment.

The morning session we 'play the game' and in the afternoon session we apply the learning to your own processes.

Process improvement conference

At our process improvement conference held at the RAF Museum Cosford, the theme of process improvement and process maturity proved very interesting and stimulating for all attendees.

C I Systems discussed the issues that drive organisations along the road to process maturity. Initially ensuring that processes are documented and compliant to the regulations of your industry and sector, benefits such as consistent delivery of services and improved customer relations were being achieved.

With change being forced on organisations by new technologies and government initiatives, process improvement and efficiency gains are being achieved with the introduction of process measurement. South Gloucestershire's informative presentation outlined the requirements and issues facing government orgainsations and how their projects have achieved national recognition by adopting the right approach to process improvement.

Fully integrated, managed environments, where process information is live and data is delivered as usable information has led to many benefits for Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions. Wayne Hepworth outlined the approaches taken, the integration of process management and Six Sigma and how the strategy for a global business can benefit from these methods and techniques.

Recent customers

LB Merton

Working with Street Cleansing at LB Merton, we have re-engineered the residential roads street cleaning operation. Once the changes have been implemented potential efficiency gains will provide savings of over £200k per annum.

The re-engineered processes meet the conflicting requirements of achieving BV199 (the outcomes) and cleaning every street every week (the activity promised by the local councillors).

Reaction to the proposals have been met with universal satisfaction from all parties.
