Business development in these ‘hard times’
The crisis in the financial markets may not have hit you or your sector just yet. Despite the press, many of our clients are still telling us that they intend to keep growing their business, strengthening their position in the market place and developing a reputation which should encourage nervous buyers to select them over their competitors.
Our clients and contacts are now all asking us ‘what does it take to grow your business in these tough times?’ At CI Systems we believe there are only 2 ways to look when you are seeking to develop your business – inwards and outwards.
Internal issues mean that everything you do must either reduce costs or improve efficiency. Business processes must maximise productivity in delivering your products and services. But how many of the things you do on a daily basis actually help to do this, and how much time is spent on non essential tasks? Traditionally organisations spend more than 80% of their time in any process either doing nothing or doing non essential tasks. By using our business process improvement techniques which incorporate LEAN, Six Sigma and others, you can have a dramatic effect on your bottom line.
- Typical improvements for our clients are:
- Overall business process cycle time reduction by -78%
- Improved business productivity by +24%
- Reduced redundant business processes by -19%
- Headcount reduction supporting business processes by -12%
- Reduced order-to-cash business cycle by -39%
- Reduced business process waste (rework) by -45%
But more than looking at this on a project by project basis there needs to be a culture in the organisation of improvement. Improvement should not be isolated to one position or one department but should permeate through the business.
Externally issues will include your sales and marketing strategy. Are you still looking for business opportunities? Have you run out of ideas to extend and develop your business potential? Are you maximising your client spend and increasing their satisfaction?
And remember that all inward analysis also looks outward to focus on the customer. Little point in efficiently delivering what they don’t want
What can be done?
Initially you need to review your companies systems and processes. Look at them with a fresh pair of eyes.
You may want to start, for example, by reviewing your core business activities and evaluating each one by profit, cost profile and growth potential. A review of the market may lead to a re-evaluation of your business goals and strategies.
CI Systems have been working with organisations like yours to grow the top line business and cut the bottom line costs to revitalise your business. We can help develop a culture of success and belief and blow away the dark clouds looming on the horizon. Using techniques we have perfected we can help you to understand how to continue our work once we have gone.
What do we suggest?
